London Underground battery locomotive L51 was one of three trains to have pride vinyl wraps applied, joining a London Overground Class 378 EMU and an Elizabeth line Class 345. The locomotive, which is used on London Underground engineering trains, was paired with classmate L52 to work the 05.35 East Putney to Ruislip Depot engineering train, with the ensemble passing through Southfields on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line on July 2. This overnight train had been the locomotive’s debut in its new livery. Jason Cross

TRANSPORT FOR London unveiled three of its trains in celebratory pride vinyls in advance of the London Pride celebrations at the beginning of July.

The colourful wraps were applied to the entire length of London Overground Class 378 electric multiple unit 378205, while Elizabeth line Class 345 EMU 345055 has also received a similar livery style to the two driving vehicles at either end of the nine-coach train. London Underground engineering department battery locomotive L51 has also been wrapped, as has a London double-decker bus. It has been funded by Arriva Rail London, MTR Elizabeth line, Hayley Rail, Abellio and Global, in conjunction with TfL.

TfL said that the design was shaped by the lived experiences of the LGBTQ+ community, reflecting the diversity of London, and that it will be seen by people around the capital and as far as Essex and Reading. TfL also launched a poster campaign across its transport network in time for the start of the Pride in London event on July 1, with celebrities and other members of the LGBTQ+ community telling their stories under ‘Every Story Matters’, the theme being promoted by TfL around this year’s event.
