KITCHEN BUYER’S GUIDE

Let your personality shine with a style that makes you smile from that morning cuppa to dinner time. Don’t be shy, go for bold

CLEVER CONTRAST If you choose colour for your units, stick to a neutral floor to keep things nice and balanced and to allow your bright cabinetry to do the talking. This kitchen’s pared-back vinyl floor tiles allow the pink island and mint cupboards to really stand out. Going for another bold shade on an island is a great way to introduce a colour contrast which won’t totally dominate the design. For a similar flooring, try Tegola Elite luxury vinyl tile in Cement Stone 46905, £69.99 per m2, Carpetright.
HOT AND SPICY Above Inspiration for your new kitchen can come from anywhere – your wardrobe, favourite holiday destination, artwork or simply your favourite hue. This fabulous kitchen was inspired by a visit to a Mexican hacienda and features a unique graphic pattern in primary colours against a birch-ply backdrop, which makes the design really pop. And pop it does. Designed by Wood Works Brighton, where kitchens start from £33,600.
FEATURE LINDSAY BLAIR

Long gone are the days when the choice of kitchen colours was limited to whites, beiges or greys. Now, it’s all about letting loose and creating a space that truly reflects your interior style. Most kitchen companies offer a wide choice of hues, so whether you’re after slick, modern cabinetry or something more classic, you’ll be able to add your stamp to it to suit your home.

‘The key thing to remember is that colour isn’t scary,’ advises Ruth Lavender, design expert for Benchmarx Kitchens. ‘Confidence comes when you find a colour that evokes feelings of happiness – this is how you know the hue is right for your home.’

If you’re revamping your existing units, the colour world is your oyster. Look for specialist kitchen cupboard paints, or switch up your doors, keeping carcasses that are in good condition, for a quicker moneysaving transformation.

Colour is also a great way to zone your kitchen. Separate your cooking area from your breakfast bar or island with contrasting hues, or choose a two- or threetone effect across your units. Try not to be too swayed by trends, as you’ll be the one looking at it every day. The best colourful kitchens unapologetically show off your own taste and style.

KEEN AS MUSTARD Below Sure to brighten your day, this kitchen is made from solid wood with an authentic grained finish which helps to soften the bright shade for a more lived-in feel. The Shakerstyle door fronts with minimal handles keep the look classic while the colour adds that dash of personality. What’s more, you can sand and repaint it for a new look if you want a change. Chilcomb kitchen in Mustard, POA, available from Howdens.
