THE CLAIM

THE REALITY

I’ve been very impressed with Shoei’s NXR2, finding it comfortable, lightweight, well-built and with excellent visibility. Over the past 18 months I’ve clocked 5000 miles with it in every kind of application possible – from 12‐hour days on a sports tourer, to 170mph on Silverstone’s Hangar Straight on a Ducati Panigale V4. In every circumstance it has performed admirably.

The NXR2 was Shoei’s first sports lid to apply to the new, more stringent ECE 22.06 safety regs, but it retains the trademark Shoei compact shell and light weight (it’s 1365g). Aerodynamically it’s a winner – there’s little buffeting and it’s quiet on a variety of bikes.

Equally, helmets with a large top vent can be noisy, especially for taller riders where wind blast from a screen can be aimed directly at the vent. But there are no problems here. Those vents are effective – the only time I experienced any misting was at low speed and in the middle of a 24-hour race when I was hot, sweaty and blowing hard.
