FROM THE CEO

Hello and welcome to October. For children it’s the month of pumpkins and ghouls, but for the Saga generation, October is high season for holidays now schools are back, flights are cheaper and the garden’s summer harvest is all safely gathered in and used up (apart from those pumpkins, of course). Nothing says autumn quite like neat rows of preserves, chutneys, jams, and – in my case as an enthusiastic beekeeper – jars of honey.

It would seem many of you with grandchildren have also had a busy summer and are looking forward to a well-deserved bit of R&R. Research by Saga, picked up by The Times, revealed grandparents spent an average of 16 days providing childcare over the school summer break.

Without that help, parents would have had to pay £960 per child for childcare, and a third admitted they wouldn’t have been able to work. It’s a timely reminder, and just one example, of the positive contribution the Saga generation makes to their families and the wider economy.

Whether it’s a rest or an adventure you are looking for, our teams are here to help. Cruise-wise, our river and ocean ships have never been fuller than in 2023.

And what’s really pleasing from a business perspective is that 40% of our guests are new to Saga Cruising. Clearly, the news of our unrivalled service and inspiring choice of destinations is spreading. No wonder Forbes recently voted us best adults-only cruise for older couples.

If it’s winter sun you are after, we have some wonderful trips to the Canary Islands planned, with some very special celebrity guests.

Or how about Egypt?

I love the sound of Saga Travel’s luxurious Dahabiya trips on the Nile. These beautiful and majestic sailing boats hark back to an earlier age of Egyptian exploration and offer a unique way to experience the river.
