NATIONWIDE 10-21 May wildisleslive.org Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, the captivating 2023 BBC documentary series Wild Isles shone a spotlight on Britain’s wildlife, filming 96 species in 145 locations across the country. Now, the visionary filmmaker and producer behind the show, Alastair Fothergill (above with Attenborough), hosts this live, big-screen experience. It will feature highlights from the acclaimed series and promises never-before-seen footage and behind-the-scenes insight, as well as a Q&A with the audience.

Fragile Beauty: Photographs from the Sir Elton John and David Furnish Collection

V&A, SOUTH KENSINGTON, LONDON 18 May 2024-5 January 2025 vam.ac.uk Sir Elton John and David Furnish have spent 30 years building up their photography collection. Now, over 300 of these rare prints will be on display at the V&A.

The exhibition will include images such as this shot by Herb Ritts of the back of a Versace dress (1990), as well as portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Miles Davis.

HAY-ON-WYE, WALES 23 May-2 June hayfestival.org Lenny Henry, Miriam Margolyes and Jay Blades are among the big names at this year’s iteration of the literary festival. They will be joining an extensive programme of authors and creatives who will be appearing in the ‘town of books’, including Julian Clary, Jeanette Winterson and Rory Stewart. There will be more than 700 events throughout the festival, from book launches and readings to comedy, musical performances, and talks on politics, economics, and science.

REGENT’S PARK OPEN AIR THEATRE, LONDON 3 May–21 September openairtheatre.com The popular open-air theatre returns to Regent’s Park, staging a series of shows in leafy surroundings. The summer season kicks off with Shakespeare comedy Twelfth Night (3 May-8 June, below) and a new musical based on Roald Dahl’s story The Enormous Crocodile (17 May-8 June).
