After reading ‘How to be a Thoughtful Foodie’ (September), I downloaded the Olio app, which put me in touch with a neighbour who’s a keen gardener looking to share surplus fruit and veg. We then invited him to Sunday lunch and made the delicious rosemary roast lamb with Provençal panzanella, using his homegrown courgettes, and for pud we had the pear and ginger galette with ice cream. It was the first roast he’d had in months as it was something his wife – who sadly died earlier this year – used to cook weekly. The meal was a huge success and brought our generous neighbour much happiness.

As Akela of our local Cub Scout troop, I’m always on the lookout for fun recipes the Cubs, aged eight to 10, can make. They loved the breakfast tortilla cups (September) and at Christmas we will again make the reindeer doughnuts you published some time ago. It’s great to see young people cook and then enjoy new food – please keep publishing recipes for our budding chefs!
