New drinks and tipples to try
BOTTLE CORNER
Georgina Haughton, head of wine buying at Sainsbury’s, shares her favourite bottle for January…
‘If you’re looking to moderate your alcohol intake this January, then I’d recommend trying our new mid-strength wine range. It sits at 7-9%, so offers a lower ABV than the rest of our wines, making it a great way to moderate while still getting all the flavours of full-strength wine.
My personal favourite is the Elia Côtes de Gascogne from south west France. Made from the colombard grape, it’s a vibrant and refreshing white wine from Plaimont, one of France’s most renowned cooperatives, who are masters of making naturally lower-in-alcohol wines that taste delicious. Here’s to a damp – rather than dry – January!’
