FEAST IN THE EAST
I got home from work on Blue Monday, full of cold. I’d bought the January issue, but hadn’t opened it, so ran a bath and hopped in with the magazine. As a born-and-bred Eastender, the ‘Feast in the East’ article warmed my soul and certainly cheered me up. Long live Brick Lane and all its culinary influences.
A TASTE OF HOME
I am a Londoner born in 1938, so I grew up in the times of ration books and the corner shop. As a young girl, I shopped with my father at Sainsbury’s every Saturday morning, stocking up for the week. For the last 25 years I have lived in Spain to be close to my granddaughters and great-grandchildren and, up until Brexit, I received Sainsbury’ magazine by post, making most of the recipes – to my husband’s delight! One of our favourites is the Spelt Pizza with Beetroot Chutney published in 2017 – I make it every couple of weeks. Last November, I was back in the UK so picked up a copy of the magazine. What a joy! So many things to try and I’m working my way through them all.
MIDLIFE HEALTH PLAN
Last year, I purchased the Midlife Health Plan from the Sainsbury’s magazine collection and I still use it every week for recipe inspiration. We have tried most recipes – my husband commented that I have used this more than many of my cookbooks. I have picked up Sainsbury magazine for many years, however this particular magazine has been the best one yet for both recipes and articles – I hope to see more issues like this in the future.
