The July issue of Ships Monthly is out now, and is not only packed with all the usual news and outstanding articles and features, but also has a special 28-page in-depth feature marking a century of aircraft carriers, from HMS Argus to HMS Prince of Wales. We look to the future with a feature assessing the shipping industry’s drive to decarbonise, and the latest technology being employed by the industry to meet its environmental goals. Carnival Cruise Line celebrates half a century of cruising, and we have an in-depth feature describing how the company has grown into one of the industry’s major players having started out with historic liners converted for cruising. On the historical side, we recall the history of the Tilbury Landing Stage, which recently celebrated 90 years of ship visits, and which has hosted many famous liners and other ships. Crossing the Cook Strait between new Zealand’s North and South Islands often involves the ferries facing heavy seas, but two companies now maintain a fine service linking the two islands.
