The January 2023 issue of Ships Monthly is out now, and is packed with all the usual news and outstanding articles and features. Waterfront – New ro-ro ship Eco Italia enters the Grimaldi fleet, Matson orders three LNG-fuelled boxboats, and wind deflector fitted to container ship ONE Trust. Ferry – Five more years for DFDS out of Newhaven, new CalMac ferries for Skye triangle, and Uber boat heads east. Cruise – Global Dream bought by Disney, Star Cruises sends two ships to breakers, and Carnival and China establish Adora Cruises. Naval – The future HMS Glasgow launched, the US aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford visits the Solent, and first FDI frigate launched for French. Cargo – COSCO orders methanol-fuelled ships, new ships for Wan Hai Lines, and dual-fuel Aframax tankers delivered. News feature – Remembering Shaw Savill’s Corinthic class of four passenger-cargo liners, which were built in the late 1940s. FEATURES Waverley on tour – During the autumn the paddle steamer Waverley made a welcome return to the south coast of England and the Thames. Mexico Baja Boats – The ferries that have plied the Sea of Cortez, connecting the long Baja California peninsula with the Mexican mainland. Life on a Carrier – On board the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales during the FLOTEX exercise held off Spain in June 2022.
