The February 2023 issue of Ships Monthly is out now, and is packed with all the usual news and outstanding articles and features. FEATURES 50 Years of Brittany ferries – A look at the French operator Brittany Ferries, who have redefined Channel crossings over the last half century, with some outstanding phtograhs of the operator’s impressive ferries. Newhaven-Dieppe – The history of the Newhaven-Dieppe connection, a route which started back in the late 19th century and now employs two modern vessels. Mediterranean Sky – Lying half-sunk in the Gulf of Elefsina are the rusting remains of the former passenger cargo liner City of York, once part of the Ellerman & Bucknall fleet, which was converted into the ferry Mediterranean Sky. Maritime Mosaic – A selection of photos of ships visiting Bergen, Norway’s second biggest city and known as ‘gateway to the fjords’, back in 2005. Beautiful Bulkers – The ubiquitous bulk carrier is not considered a beautiful ship by many, but when just out of the builder’s yard, or with a fresh coat of paint, bulkers can be handsome vessels. Submarine mystery – The loss of the submarine Urge, which left Malta for Egypt in April 1942 and was never seen again until the discovery of its wreck almost 80 years later. US Navy Aircraft Carriers – Since 1945, the United States Navy has been at the forefront of aircraft carrier design and development, from USS Midway to the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise.
