■ Lopi Alafosslopi (100% wool, 100g/100m) 6 balls of Space Blue (1233) 5 balls of each: Apple Green (9983) Golden Heather (9964) 3 balls of Amber Heather (9971)

■ A 6mm (US J/10) hook

Kilim rugs appear across many countries and cultures. Maria’s is inspired by kilim of the Hutsuls in Ukraine and Romania.

NOTES

Rug is worked in rows throughout. There is a Chart on page 80, which you will need to refer to. Each small square represents 1dc. Read all RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right. The first few rows of the Chart have been written out to guide you. Change colour on the final yrh of st before colour change is indicated. Do not carry the unused colours. Instead, use a separate ball of yarn for each section of colour.

RUG

Using Amber Heather, ch128.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and each ch across, turn. [127 sts] Row 2 (WS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), dc in each st across, turn. Change to Apple Green.

Row 3 (RS) Ch1, dc in each st across, turn. Change to Amber Heather.

Rows 4-11 As Row 2, changing to Space Blue at end of Row 5, Amber Heather at end of Row 7 and Space Blue at end of Row 8.

Row 12 (WS) Ch1, dc in first 50 sts, change to Golder Heather, dc in next 27 sts, change to Space Blue, dc in final 50 sts, turn.

Row 13 (RS) Ch1, dc in first 50 sts, change to Golden Heather, dc in next st, change to Apple Green, dc in next 25 sts, change to Golden Heather, dc in next st, change to Space Blue, dc in final 50 sts, turn.
