BABY BLANKET

Tuck a little one in beneath a bevvy of 3D sheep, rabbits and chickens in this motif blanket by Kelly Wilson Moore

■ Scheepjes Catona 4ply (100% cotton, 50g/125m), 4 balls of Bluebell (173), 3 balls of each: Snow White (106), Powder Pink (238), 2 balls of: Chrystaline (385), 1 ball of each: Candle Light (101), Peach (523), Light Peach (523)

■ A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook

■ Black cotton yarn

TENSION

Tension is not critical, but it may affect the yarn quantities required

MEASUREMENTS

Square measures 9cm (3½in) x 9cm (3½in) Blanket measures approx 76cm (30in) x 76cm (30in)

NOTES

Blanket is made up of 49 Squares, which are joined together in a 7x7 formation with a double crochet seam. Checked Squares are worked in rows. Carry the unused yarn up the side of your work. We recommend blocking the Squares before joining.

Make sure all elements are sewn on securely before allowing a baby to interact with the blanket, and don’t allow a baby to use the blanket unaccompanied.

BABY BLANKET CHECKED SQUARES (MAKE 24)

Using Bluebell, ch23.

Row 1 (RS) Tr in third ch from hook, 2tr, (change to Snow White, 3tr, change to Bluebell, 3tr) 3 times, turn. [21 sts] Change to Snow White.

Row 2 Ch2 (does not count as st throughout), 1tr in same st, 2tr, (change to Bluebell, 3tr, change to Snow White, 3tr) 3 times, turn. Change to Bluebell.

Row 3 Ch2, 1tr in same st, 2tr, (change to Snow White, 3tr, change to Bluebell, 3tr) 3 times, turn.

Rows 4-9 Rep Rows 2 and 3 three times more.

Row 10 Rep Row 2.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

CHICK SQUARES (MAKE 9)

Using Candle Light, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as st throughout), 11tr in loop, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join. [12 sts] Round 2 Ch3, 1tr in same st, 2tr in each st around, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join. [24 sts] Round 3 Ch3, 1tr in same st, (1tr, 2tr in next st) 11 times, 1tr, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join. [36 sts] Round 4 *Ch2, 1tr in same st, 1tr, (2tr in next st, 2tr) 11 times, 2tr in next st, ss to first tr to join. [48 sts] Fasten off.

Using Peach, join to fl of any st from Round 4.
