Charity of the MONTH

We meet Nicky Weller, ambassador for Future Dreams Breast Cancer Charity, and hear all about their brilliant work

Charity Future Dreams Breast Cancer Charity Established 2008 What do you do?

I am an ambassador for Future Dreams and had breast cancer in 2012, I started knitting while going through treatment. I was asked to start a Yarn Therapy group last year. I lead the group which has grown hugely in a year and I now run two sessions a month.

What does the charity do? Future Dreams shares the mission that nobody should face breast cancer alone. They provide practical, emotional and psychological support, fund vital secondary breast cancer research, and promote breast health awareness. The charity is there for anyone touched by breast cancer, and offers a variety of support including therapies, acupuncture, expert bra fittings, art classes and just about everything you can imagine. This is growing month on month.

What can knitters do to help? The knitting group was initially started for people that had never picked up a pair of needles to very proficient knitters, with a wide range of ages. Our knitters have been making knitted or crocheted flowers using the amazing yarn especially made for Future Dreams by West Yorkshire Spinners. We would love for you to join us by creating a knitted rose which will become part of our installation or join virtually by submitting your pictures and reasons for taking part and supporting us.
