Lynn’s Elmer cardi knit was a big hit!

ELMER ADAPTATION

I loved the Elmer jumper in issue 239 but know that my previous attempts at Swiss darning have not been successful, so I embarked on knitting Elmer within the main body. I adjusted the design to incorporate the loose coloured squares, both on the sleeves, as per the pattern within the mag, but also on front and back. I decided to knit Elmer on the back of the garment and make it a zip-up jacket as it is for my grandaughter and open fronts are what her parents prefer. I am super-happy with how it looks which involved transferring the design onto a different pattern. This change was tricky but I am so very pleased with the outcome as are her parents. Sewing the ends of the different colours in was the most challenging part of this labour of love!

Lynn Petherbridge

Colourful knits are great, but like you, we would rather not have to sew in the ends. It was absolutely worth it though Lynn, it’s a beautiful knitted gift!

Ro crafted a ‘Paul’ doll as a gift for her mum

REMEMBERING PAUL

My mum, who is in a care home, loved watching Paul O’Grady, especially TV’s ‘For The Love of Dogs,’ so I made her a Paul O’Grady doll with his dog buster. She was so surprised when she got it. I did not have a pattern so I made a basic doll and added the features myself. I looked at a photo of Paul and copied it into my book. I feel so proud that you like it, that’s made my day thank you all so much.

Ro Hallows

We love it Ro! What a wonderfully kind thing to do for your mum too. We can’t wait to see what personality you knit next – don’t forget to let us know.

CRAFTY NANA

I’ve not long finished this Crafty Nana pattern by Alison Davis. It now has pride of place in my sister-in-law’s sewing room. I’m determined now to teach myself to crochet next. There are so many beautiful crocheted items on Facebook craft groups so fingers crossed I can learn.

Norma Young

Good luck with your crochet endeavours Norma (keep up the knitting too though)!
