TENSION

24 sts and 33 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over stocking stitch using 3.5mm needles

14.5 x 14.5 x 14.5cm, and 24cm tall including top handle (5¾ x 5¾ x 5¾ x 9½in)

PLAY CUBE

Use mattress stitch for seaming, making sure that when sewing up all seams are securely fastened to prevent filling escaping. Unless otherwise specified, use the cable cast-on for all pieces.

CUBE FACES (MAKE 6)

Make 1 each in Yarns A, B, C and D and 2 in Yarn E.

Cast on 34 sts using 3.5mm needles.

Rows 1 to 48 Starting on a RS knit row, work 48 rows in st st.

Cast off.

CUBE POCKETS (MAKE 4)

Make 1 each in Yarns A, B, C and E. The pocket is started at the bottom edge by picking up and knitting stitches on one of the cube faces. Make a Yarn A pocket on Yarn C face, Yarn B pocket on Yarn D face, Yarn C pocket on Yarn A face, and Yarn E pocket on Yarn B face. On cube face, with RS facing and cast-on edge at bottom, count up to 6th row, and from RH side edge count over to the 5th stitch; this is the position of bottom RH corner of pocket.

From this starting point, pick up and knit 26 sts along 6th row of cube face using 3.5mm needles.

Rows 1 to 35 Starting on a WS purl row, work 35 rows in st st.

Cast off.

TOP HANDLE

Cast on 15 sts using 3.5mm needles and Yarn B.

Rows 1 to 60 Starting on a RS knit row, work 60 rows in st st.

Cast off.

RINGS (MAKE 3)

Make 1 each in Yarns A, C and D.

Cast on 26 sts using 3.5mm needles.

Row 1 (RS) Knit.

Row 2 and all foll WS rows Purl.

Row 3 K1, (kfb, K2) 8 times, K1. [34 sts]

Row 5 K1, (kfb, K3) 8 times, K1. [42 sts]

Row 7 Knit.

Row 9 K1, (k2tog, K3) 8 times, K1. [34 sts]
