STAR LETTER ARAN DREAMS

Elly journeyed to Ireland to find the perfect scarf yarn £5O GIFT CARD
*Prizes subject to change

My parents are Irish and my mum taught me to knit as a child. When I was 18 my grandmother visited from Ireland. She asked if I knew how to do Aran cable – I said it looked too difficult – so she showed me how easy it was, and now cable knitting is my favourite thing to do. I went to Ireland in 2016 to visit relatives and tour a little as I had not been since I was young. I brought home some Aran yarn in several colours and kept it until I came up with an idea for a scarf. I knitted a Celtic knot and then worked outwards, doing the braids and edging with moss stitch. I kept knitting until I ran out of that particular ball of yarn creating an amazing 11ft long scarf! It’s the talk of the town wherever I wear it.

ELFIE SELFIE

Barbara’s elf looks just like her granddaughter Paige – freckles and all! Pattern in issue 217

I have enjoyed making this Festive Spirit Elf from Simply Knitting Issue 217, for my seven-year-old grandaughter, Paige. She asked me to knit a girl elf and as Paige has ginger hair and freckles, this elf was perfect. The Christmas tree on the dress is from Simply Knitting Issue 166. I prefer to knit rather than doing duplicate stitch as the Elf pattern suggested. I have a good collection of SK magazines and Paige loves to look through them with me to choose the next project. I am currently teaching her to knit and SK magazine is providing plenty of inspiration. Thank you for a wonderful mag.
