Notes Unless otherwise specified, use the cable cast on for all pieces and use mattress stitch to sew seams. The crochet hook is used to attach strands of yarn onto the head for the donkey’s mane. While working short row shaping in the Body, pick up wraps and work them together with wrapped sts.
HEAD
Cast on 10 sts using 2.75mm needles and Yarn A. Start at back.
Row 1 (RS) Knit.
Row 2 Purl.
Row 3 K1, (kfb) 8 times, K1. [18 sts] Row 4 Purl.
Row 5 K1, (kfb, K1) 8 times, K1. [26 sts] Row 6 Purl.
Row 7 K1, (kfb, K2) 8 times, K1. [34 sts] Row 8 Purl.
Row 9 K1, (kfb, K3) 8 times, K1. [42 sts] Row 10 Purl.
Row 11 K1, (kfb, K9) 4 times, K1. [46 sts] Rows 12 to 15 Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st.
Row 16 P20, PM, P6, PM, P20.
Row 17 Knit to 2 sts before mrk, k2tog, sl SM, K6, sl SM, ssk, knit to end. [2 sts dec’d] Row 18 Purl, slipping markers.
Rows 19 to 32 Rep Rows 17 and 18 seven more times. [30 sts] Break Yarn A and join Yarn C.
Row 33 Knit, removing markers.
Rows 34 to 40 Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st.
Row 41 K1, (k2tog, K2) 7 times, K1. [23 sts] Row 42 Purl.
Row 43 K1, (k2tog, K1) 7 times, K1. [16 sts] Row 44 Purl.
Row 45 (K2tog) 8 times. [8 sts] Break yarn and thread through rem sts. Pull tight to fasten.
EARS (MAKE 2)
Cast on 14 sts using 2.75mm needles and Yarn A. Start at base.
Rows 1 (RS) Knit.
Row 2 and foll WS rows Purl.
Row 3 K1, (kfb, K4, kfb) twice, K1. [18 sts] Row 5 K1, (kfb, K6, kfb) twice, K1. [22 sts] Row 7 K1, (kfb, K8, kfb) twice, K1. [26 sts] Rows 8 to 12 Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st.
Row 13 K1, (k2tog, K8, ssk) twice, K1. [22 sts] Row 15 Knit.
Row 17 K1, (k2tog, K6, ssk) twice, K1. [18 sts] Row 19 Knit.
