GREAT beginner shawl!

VARIEGATED SHAWL

Note This shawl is worked in rows but it is recommended to use a circular needle to accommodate the stitches as it grows and for working the final edging.

We have included written instructions for the chart pattern below.

DIAMOND EDGE PATTERN

Row 2 and all WS rows
Sl 1 wyif, knit to end.

Row 3 (K2tog, yo, K5) twice, yo, ssk, yo, K1. [18 sts]

K2tog, yo, K4, k2tog, yo, K2, k2tog, yo, K3, yo, ssk, yo, K1.

SHAWL

Cast on 21 sts using 3.5mm needles. Work 4 rows in garter st.

START INCREASES AND DIAMOND EDGING

Row 1 (RS) K2, PM, yo, K3, PM, work Row 1 of Diamond Chart. [23 sts] Row 2 (WS) Work Row 2 of Diamond Chart, sl SM, k2tog, K1, (K1, P1) in next st, sl SM, K2.

Row 3 K2, sl SM, yo, knit to SM, sl SM, work next row of Diamond Chart to end. [25 sts] Row 4 Work next row of Diamond Chart, sl SM, k2tog, knit to 1 st before SM, (K1, P1) in next st, sl SM, K2.

Rows 3 and 4 set position of increases, decreases and Diamond Chart.

Cont as set until 13 full Chart repeats are complete. [151 sts]

KNIT ON EDGING

With RS facing, using the knit or cable cast-on methods, cast on 3 sts to LH needle.

Row 1 (RS) K2, yo, K1, ssk, turn.

Row 2 Sl 1 wyib, K1, (K1, P1) in next st, K2.

Row 3 K5, ssk (using 1 edging st and 1 st from end of shawl), turn.

Row 4 Sl 1 wyib, knit to end.

Row 5 Cast off 2 sts (1 st on right needle), K2, ssk (using 1 edging st and 1 st from end of shawl), turn.

Row 6 Sl 1 wyib, K3. These 6 rows form the edging pattern.

Cont as set using 1 st from the main body of the Shawl in every ssk on the RS rows
