Sew a novelty pencil case with your favourite colourful print to store all your sketching tools in!

YOU WILL NEED

■ Light-pink cotton: FQ

■ Metallic grey cotton: FQ

■ Cream cotton: FQ

■ Patterned cotton: FQ

■ Dark-grey cotton: FQ

■ Zip: 29cm zip

■ Iron-on fleece interfacing

■ Medium-weight interfacing

■ Basic sewing kit

NOTES

■ Seam allowance is 1cm.

■ Download templates from gathered.how/ss-templates.

■ Use a zip foot to insert zip and assemble the pencil case.

■ When using zip tape, tack the ends closed before starting.

■ PP = Pattern piece.

■ FQ = Fat quarter (18x22in).

■ RS = Right side(s).

CUTTING OUT

Step one Cut out and press medium-weight interfacing to the pattern pieces. Step two From the light-pink fabric, cut: PP1: Two Step three From the metallic grey fabric, cut: PP2: Two Step four From the patterned fabric, cut: PP3: Two Step five From the cream fabric, cut: PP4: Two Step six From the dark-grey fabric, cut: PP5: Two Step seven From the iron-on fleece, cut: PP6: Two Step eight From the lining fabric, cut: PP7/Lining: Two

SEWING THE SHAPES

Step one Piece together as per the templates. The ‘A’ seam will match the ‘A’ seam and the ‘B’ seam will match the ‘B’ seam etc. Press open all the seams. Repeat to assemble the back piece. These will now be called the Outer Panels. Step two Press the iron-on fleece PP6 to the back of the two shapes.
