Disco skirt

2 min read

Draft, gather and stitch your own tiered skirt, designed by Debbie Wainhouse, for a sensational, metallic party look!

YOU WILL NEED

■ Main fabric 1mx140cm

■ Elastic: 3.5cm wide x your waist measurement + seam allowance

■ Matching thread

■ Basic sewing kit

NOTES

■ We recommend using a 140cm+ wide fabric for this project as the panels will be quite wide. If your fabric is narrower, you may need to cut your panels in sections and hide the seams at the back of the skirt.

SUGGESTED FABRICS

■ Light to medium weight fabrics that have a little structure such as organza, linen, tulle, chambray, acetate, or needlecord.

Tier Two: Width = Waist x 2.75, Height = 27cm.

Tier Three: Width = Waist x 3.5, Height = 27cm.

Step two Repeat to create loops with Tier Two and Tier Three. 01

Step three Finish the top raw edge of Tier One using an overlocker or zigzag stitch. Step four Turn the finished edge over to the wrong side (WS) by 4cm and press in place.

ASSEMBLING THE TIERS

Step one Sew a row of long length stitches along the top edges of Tiers Two and Three, leaving long thread tails at each end to allow you to gather the fabric. These stitches should be within the seam allowance so that they will be hidden later on. Step two Take Tier Two and pull your gathering stitches using the thread tails to gather the top edge to the same width as the bottom edge of Tier One. Spread the gathers out evenly. 02

Step three Pin the gathered edge of Tier Two to the bot
