This super cosy fleece is just what you need to see you through winter all the way to spring. Emily’s retro-style sportswear top won’t just have you bringing the sunshine, it’ll level up your dressmaking skills too. Drafting a simple pattern using your own measurements, you can make tweaks along the way to suit your style Feel free to be creative with the fabric colourways. We love a good clashing combo, but you could easily opt for neutrals, or different shades in the same hue.

CREATE THE PAPER PATTERN

Step two Draw a rectangle measuring W x 58cm on the pattern paper, cut out the rectangle, then fold it in half along W. Measure 28cm down from the top short edge along the open long edge and mark, as shown. Along the bottom, mark 5cm in from the open long edge. Draw a curved line between these two marks for the underarm, cut along the marked line, then cut the paper in two along the folded edge to create the front and back pattern pieces. 01

Step three Position the front pattern piece with the cut curved edge at the bottom left, then place the back piece next to it with the cut curved edge at the bottom right. To add the neckline to the front piece, measure 9cm out from the centre – previously the folded edge – then mark this point along the top. Next, mark 6cm down from the centre top edge and draw a curve between each point. For the back piece, mark 9cm in from the centre top edge and 4cm down. Draw a curve between each point, then cut along both lines. 02

Step four Measure the zip and add 2cm. Measure and mark this length from the centre neckline point down on the front pattern piece, then draw a perpendicular line across the pattern at this point, through the sleeve. Cut along this line, label the upper piece A and the lower piece B, and mar
