YOU WILL NEED

■ 1.5m of lightweight, floaty fabric

■ 1m bias binding

■ Ruler/ tape measure

■ Marking tool

■ Matching thread

■ Basic sewing kit

NOTES

■ Seam allowance is 1.5cm, unless otherwise stated

FABRIC USED

■ Blue viscose lawn from Sew Me Sunshine

CUTTING OUT

Step one From your main fabric cut: Main bodice: Measure your waist in centimetres and the distance from your shoulder to your waist. Cut a rectangle of fabric the width of your waist x twice your shoulder to waist measurement (you can add an extra few cms to the waist measurement for extra coverage if you prefer).

Bottom Panel: Two rectangles your waist measurement x 10cm. Ties: Four rectangles 40x10cm Neck Binding: One 75x2.5cm strip that is cut on on the bias.

CREATE ROLLED HEMS

Step one Sew a rolled hem (also known as a baby hem) down each of the side seams of the Main Bodice (the long sides of the rectangle). Start by stitching a line 5mm away from the edge of your fabric.w Step two With your iron. use this stitched line as a guide to press a straight line to the wrong side (WS) all the way along the edge.

Step three Sew along this folded edge close to the fold. Step four Carefully trim off the excess fabric close to the stitching and press the edge in again by 5mm. 01

Step five Stitch again a few mm away from the edge to secure and hide all of the raw edges.

CREATE THE WAIST TIES

Step one To prepare the waist ties, take both Bottom Panel pieces and press in half long ways with WS together. Then press one of the long sides in to the WS again by 1.5cm. Step two Fold and press the two short edges on by 5mm. 02

Step three Create the four ties by folding each rectangle in half right sides (RS) together and sewing along one short end and down the long side. Trim the corner to reduce bulk and turn all four ties out the right way.

Step four Pin and sew the Bottom Panel pieces to the Main Bodice RS together with the unfolded long side at the top. Step five Press the seam down towards the Bottom Panel.
