Sew the cuddly Kasey Koala and her adorable joey with designer-maker Lucy Ward's easy-to-follow pattern

YOU WILL NEED

■ Grey faux fur fabric 100x50cm

■ Ivory faux fur fabric 55x45cm

■ Beige plush fabric 26x15cm

■ Black wool felt 12x8cm

■ Beige wool felt 2x2cm

■ Ivory wool felt 5x4cm

■ White stranded cotton

■ Polyester toy filling 250g

■ Basic sewing kit

FABRICS USED

■ Faux fur fabric in Black Frost and Ivory (From Oh Sew Crafty)

■ Smooth Cuddle Plush in Latte (From Shannon Fabrics)

NOTES

■ Find the templates on page 77 or download from gathered.how/ss-templates.

■ Templates include 6mm seam allowances, unless otherwise indicated.

■ Cut pair = cut mirror image.

■ Fabric measurements are given width first, then height.

■ Arrows on the templates indicate direction of the plush pile.

■ Remove tacking stitches after sewing.

■ Size, approximately 41cm tall.

CUTTING OUT

Step one Download and print the templates. Step two Place and pin the pattern pieces onto the wrong side (WS) of the fabrics and draw around them. Cut out as follows and transfer all markings where indicated on the pattern.

FOR THE KOALA

Step one From the grey fur fabric, cut:
Head: two pairs
Body: one pair
Arm: one pair
Leg: two pairs
Ear: one pair
Step two From the ivory fur fabric, cut:
Body: one pair
Arm: one pair
Ear: one pair
Pouch: one
Step three From the beige plush fabric, cut:
Pouch: one
Step four From the black wool felt, cut:
Nose: one
Pupil: one pair
Step five From the cream felt, cut:
Chin: one
Step six From the beige wool felt, cut:
Eye: one pair
Joey Back Body: one

Joey Front Head: one

Joey Front Leg: one pair

Joey Ear: one pair

Step two From the ivory fur fabric, cut:
Joey Front Body: one
Joey Ear: one pair
Step three From the black wool felt, cut:
Joey Nose: one
Joey Eye: one pair

MAKING THE KOALA MAKING THE HEAD AND EARS

Step one Pin and sew a pair of Head pieces right sides (RS) together, between points A and B. Trim the seam. Sew the second pair of Head pieces in the same way.

Step two Pin and sew a pair of inner and outer Ear pieces RS together. Leave the straight edge open. Trim the seams and turn RS out. Oversew along the open top edge. Fold over top edge of the ear, 20mm towards the front. Secure with a row of stitches.Repeat for the second ear. 01

Step three Where marked, lay the ears on either side of one Head side, facing the RS of the Head fabric. Tack in place, close to the edge. Lay the opposite side of the Head on top, RS facing, matching centre seams on
