Elemental expert Karen Kay shines light upon the mystical world of the Fae, and how they work with angels
The reason fairies can also be called nature’s angels is because they are known as guardians of the Earth. They have also been called Earth spirits, as well as many other titles. I’d love to take a deeper look at this and explore why they’d be referred to in this way. But first, let’s be very clear about this: fairies are not angels.They are totally different beings. Angels are not known to be egoic; they are kind and benevolent. Fairies, on the other hand, definitely have egos! Although, not quite in the same way as us humans do. They certainly have individual personalities and are not always benevolent – in fact, on many occasions they can be a bit tricksy!
Discover their magical duties
So where exactly did the idea come from that fairies are angels of nature? It actually stems from a Jewish body of teachings called The Talmud, which says; “every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, ‘ grow, grow.’” From this one phrase, we understand that there are indeed beings who care for nature, including every single blade of grass. This is not to say that angels do not have a part in caring for nature, it’s just that it’s the primary role of the Fae to care for the land. In contrast, angels have a wider roster of tasks in the heavenly and human realms.
Throughout history the fairies have been dealt a rough hand, whereas actually they’re only trying to do their job! And those pesky humans continue to cut down trees and destroy nature, so it’s totally understandable why the Fae could sometimes become a little short-tempered with us humans.
Know that fairies have angels too
All beings have guardian angels, so why wouldn’t fairies have them also? There is a card in my ‘Oracle of the Fairies’ deck called “Ask for Help”. This card depicts an image of a fairy reaching up towards an angel, while the angel extends his hand down to the fairy.
Angels are celestial beings who protect everyone, and the fairies say now is the time for you to ask for angelic assistance. There are times in our lives when we need celestial assistance more than ever, and that time may just be right now.
