Freshly outshopped saddle tanks for sale

TWO RECENTLY overhauled industrial saddle tank locomotives have been put up for sale by their respective owners.

The first is Spa Valley Railway-based Andrew Barclay 0 ‐ 4‐0ST Works No. 2315 ‘Lady Ingrid’. Based at the SVR since 1998, the 1951-built ex-Braehead Power Station locomotive returned to steam for the first time since 2008 in late August 2023 following overhaul, and re-entered traffic in October. Originally named Clyde, the locomotive has been owned by Tony Attridge since it was based at the Lavender Line in the 1990s. During its time at the SVR, ‘Lady Ingrid’ – named after Tony’s wife – has been extensively but sensitively modified to make it suitable for longer runs with passenger-carrying stock, including the addition of a small rear coal bunker to increase capacity, the fitting of a Wakefield lubricator to ease maintenance, steam heating, a rocking grate, a sliding door in the ashpan to aid disposal, and a brick arch in the firebox to protect the boiler tubes when firing on the move.

Attridge said at the time of going to press that he had received seven enquiries about ‘Lady Ingrid’ so far, including approaches from the Cholsey & Wallingford and Plym Valley railways.

The second freshly outshopped industrial locomotive to have been placed on the market recently is 1919-built Hudswell Clarke 0 ‐ 6‐0ST Works No
