Back in the 1960s and ’70s ‘get the army in’ felt like a regular retort for heritage rail projects. However, it might surprise many to learn that even today, the army gets hands on with preservation schemes and is making some major contributions.
With the fabled ‘Collection X’ locomotives out in the open at last, several are moving to pastures new. One locomotive moved to its new home by steam power – but not in the way you might expect. SIMON COLBECK was there to witness the extraordinary journey.
07013 – Bury: A few steps forward were made in early August when the locomotive was lifted from its wheels. All wheelsets require tyre turning to restore their profiles, and the Class 07’s sole AEI RT
