Surely that violates the club dress code?

And with just seven words you’ve summed up why so many people think golf is a dull sport for dull people in dull clothes. But while you’ve been sitting there in the clubhouse bar, nursing a pint of bitter and complaining about what colour trousers other people are wearing, Malbon has been trying to change that perception with threads that don’t look like they were designed for a bunch of absolute bankers. You won’t find a blazer or pair of plus-fours anywhere in Malbon’s wardrobe, but you will now find this special edition of Tag Heuer’s Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch.

Oh yeah, and what’s so special about it?

Well, it has the same DLC-coated 45mm titanium case as one of the standard E4 watches, but Malbon has given the pushers and crown a lick of turquoise and yellow paint to match the markers on the bezel. The strap, which is made from rubber and calfskin, uses the same green and yellow hues as Malbon’s mascot Bucket, who features on one of the two exclusive watch faces. The other includes a trio of complications that can display useful info on the 1.28in OLED when you’re out on the course… but for the full ‘wearable caddy’ experience you can get it to automatically count your shots as you take them.

Not just a pretty face on a golf ball, then…

Far from it. The watch has a Snapdragon 4100+ processor that powers Google’s Wear OS, so it’s compatible with both Android and iOS phones, and there are plenty of sensors inside –GPS, heart-rate monitor, accelerometer, gyroscope and compass –that allow you to track more rigorous sports than golf. The 430mAh battery will need charging every night, but hey, you can’t play golf in your sleep anyway. It’s also 50m waterproof, so you won’t need to take it off if your drive ends up in the drink.
