New ovens make cooking a pleasure, however complex the meal

While Samsung cooled things down at CES, LG were cooking up a storm with a new range of appliances that are ‘hot’ and ‘smart’ in several senses. First up, the InstaView Combination Double Wall Oven has one of the wackiest features we’ve seen in a while. Knock twice on its InstaView door and the glass clears and the cavity lights up, so you can see how your meal is progressing without having to open the door. Why not just make the door out of glass like most ovens do? We don’t know! But this is way classier, so who’s complaining?

Not surprisingly, there is also an air fryer mode, for those who like their dinners fast, crispy and low in fat. At the other end of the gourmet scale, the new oven also features Steam Sous Vide. This lets you slow cook with extreme precision to rustle up ‘restaurant- quality meals at home’. It’s especially good for meat and fish, ensuring you’ll never suffer over- or under-cooked protein again.

If you want to eat bigger, there’s the LG InstaView Electric Double Slide-in Range. ‘Ideal for big families or those who like to entertain,’ this features the same ‘knock to view’ effect as the wall oven, but with a much bigger capacity.

Convection – this lets you cook without the need for preheating, which is a handy bonus for the time -poor. There’s also UltraHeat, which, as the name suggests, heats things up really fast, with ‘finetuned control for rapid boiling and scorch-free simmering.’

LG has recently upgraded its ThinQ smart home technology and this, like the other InstaView cooker, is compatible with the ThinQ Recipe service. This offers no fewer than 18,000 recipes to try out – that should keep you going for a while.
