LITLINGTON Athletic FC, whose first team play in the Cambridgeshire County League Division 1A, are this week’s big winners of 1000GBP.com after being nominated by reserve team manager Conor Browne.
Based in the small village of Litlington, near Royston, and with a population of around 800, they run two Saturday sides and in recent weeks have been awarded £759, including the £500 top prize last Monday.
Conor first heard about 1000GBP.com last month when listening to an edition of the Spartan Talk podcast. Having discovered how many thousands of pounds other Non-League teams, such as Saffron Walden Town FC, Colney Heath FC and Billingham Town FC, had already collectively won, he decided to register Litlington AFC and play The Ultimate Football Quiz himself.
“Winning the top £1000 prize to split between me and the club was incredible,” said Conor this week. “Additional funding like this at our level is massive and can do so much good. It’s a great football quiz and very enjoyable to play, especially as there are so many questions that are very recent, as well as historic ones. We’ve been sending out the 1000GBP. com links to everyone on our player and committee WhatsApp groups and a lot of them have now signed up as well.”
