IT HASN’T been the easiest of seasons for Wycombe Wanderers, but the form of defender Joe Low has certainly been a major plus.

The towering centre-half signed from Bristol City after impressing on trial last summer, having previously caught the eye of Chairboys boss Matt Bloomfield.

It’s proved an astute bit of business as Low had, pre-weekend, notched up 35 appearances in all competitions. He’d also chipped in with four goals, the latest breaking the deadlock late on as Wycombe gained a precious 2-0 home win against relegation-threatened Cheltenham in midweek.

It has certainly been a season to remember for Lowe, who spent the second half of last term on loan at League Two side Walsall. While Wycombe haven’t set the world alight in League One, they are through to the Bristol Street Motors Trophy final against Peterborough at Wembley in early April.

In addition, Low made his senior Wales debut in a 4-0 friendly win against

Gi- braltar at Wrexham in October, achieving one of his childhood dreams in the process.

His displays have caught the eye of clubs higher up the ladder, but he’s just happy to be honing his skills at Adams Park this term.

“It’s been brilliant, right from the start I’ve been eager to play games with it being my first full season in the Football League,” he told The FLP after the midweek win.

“That’s how you learn the quickest – playing games. With the amount we’re playing at the minute – Tuesday, Saturday – they are all chances to learn so I’m picking things up really quickly.

“The games come quickly so it’s how you adjust your body, getting ready as much physically as mentally, just preparing the right way.

“I’m just looking to learn and I’ll always ask questions. I know I’m not the finished product so I’ll try to be a sponge and absorb as much infor mation and knowledge as I can and keep developing as a player.

Questions

“The senior pros here are amazing and I’m trying to pick their brains. They are all around me in the dressing room and on the pitch so whenever I get the chance, I’m always asking questions.”

While experienced players like Sam Vokes, Garath McCleary and Luke Leahy can help 6ft 5ins centre-back Low with advice, they come behind someone particularly important – his dad Josh.
