Sky Blues serve up a Cup thriller

FOOTBALL, eh? Just when Coventry City looked set for massive disappointment in their FA Cup quarter-final against Wolves in yesterday’s lunchtime kick-off, they scored twice deep in stoppage time to record a famous victory.

To be honest, it would have been a travesty if the Sky Blues had lost given their domination over the course of the match, but it looked as though they would pay the ultimate price for failing to add to Ellis Simms’ opener.

When Rayan Ait-Nouri and substitute Hugo Bueno scored for Wolves on 83 and 88 minutes, it looked like the Premier League outfit had got out of jail. However, that man Simms – who hit a hat-trick in the 5-0 romp against Maidstone in the last round – bagged the equaliser before USA international Haji Wright notched the winner in the 100th minute of a breathless encounter.

It means Mark Robins’ men are heading to the semi-finals at Wembley next month and Sky Blues fans can dream of a repeat of their FA Cup glory from 1987 when they beat Tottenham in a classic final – also 3-2!

It’s a quick return to Wembley for the Sky Blues after their Championship play-off final penalty shoot-out agony against Luton last term.
