HULL City have expressed their disgust at the racist abuse suffered by manager Liam Rosenior and say the offending posts have been reported to police.

Rosenior, 39, was nominated for the Championship Manager of the Year award on Wednesday alongside Leeds’ Daniel Farke and Kieran McKenna of Ipswich.

But the online announcement was met with several abusive comments, including one poster who called Rosenior a “monkey”.

“Hull City strongly condemns racist abuse aimed at head coach Liam Rosenior,” said a statement on the club website.

“We are disgusted by the social media posts and the matter has been reported to Humberside Police.

“We will continue to work with the relevant authorities to identify those responsible.

“Hull City has zero tolerance of any form of discrimination and our stance is clear: racism has no place in football or society.” Rosenior, whose side began the weekend six points adrift of a playoff place after a recent slump in form, said he felt compelled to speak out about the abuse because it had affected his children.

“When my kids read that I’m a monkey when that should be something that should be really positive, it leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth,” he said.
