SAMMIE Szmodics, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Crysencio Summerville are in the running to be named EFL Championship Player of the Season.

The EFL announced their shortlists for their annual awards on Wednesday, with the trio holding off a host of rivals for the coveted spots.

Midfielder Dewsbury-Hall entered the weekend with 11 goals and 13 assists to his name for Leicester, while Blackburn striker Szmodics topped the scoring charts with 23 goals. Leeds winger Summerville had notched 17 goals and eight assists.

On the managerial front, Kieran McKenna is highly fancied after putting Ipswich into the fight for automatic promotion after making the step up from League One last term. Leeds boss Daniel Farke and Hull’s Liam Rosenior are the others shortlisted.

In League One, Portsmouth skipper Marlon Pack is in the frame. The 33-year-old has already won the third tier Player in the Community prize and could add the Player of the Season award. The midfielder comes up against Derby winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Peterborough left-back Harrison Burrows.

Pompey boss John Mousinho will be the favourite to land the manager accolade following his table-topping side’s exploits, though he faces competition from Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson – who takes his side to Wembley for the Bristol Street Motors Trophy final this afternoon – and Stevenage manager Steve Evans, who has built on last season’s promotion from League Two.

In League Two, the Player of the Season accolade will go to Mansfield forward Davis Keillor-Dunn, Wrexham midfielder Elliot Lee or Notts Country winger Jodi Jones, who has a record-breaking 23 assists (and five goals) to his name so far this term.

The manager honour is between Mansfield’s Nigel Clough, MK Dons’ Mike Williams
