Pompey new-boy savours triumph

CALLUM Lang has only been at Portsmouth a few months – but he’s already got memories to last a lifetime!

The 25-year-old striker made the switch to the south coast from Wigan at the end of January to help John Mousinho’s squad in their League One promotion push. It could hardly have gone better as he netted four goals in his first ten games to play his part in Pompey’s glory bid.

It culminated in promotion - and the title - thanks to a dramatic 3-2 win against Barnsley at an electric Fratton Park on Tuesday night. Trailing 2-1 to the play-off chasing Tykes, Portsmouth turned it around late on thanks to Colby Bishop’s penalty and Conor Shaughnessy’s 89th minute winner.

The delirious scenes of celebration as supporters poured on to the pitch at the final whistle are something that Merseysider Lang won’t forget in a hurry.

“When you look back at the end of your career there will be moments you remember,” he told The FLP. “Right now thatt has to be top. It was the way we did it, the atmosphere, the feeling on the pitch and everyone running on after – it was just crazy!

“There are a few moments that will stick with me for life. The celebrations were ing, straight from the final amaz- whistle and the momentsments on the pitch to having a bit of time to ourselves in the dressing room.

“We had alittle night out in Portsmouth and bumped into a lot of fans, which was brilliant. It will stick with all of us for a long time that the fans got to enjoy that with us.

“This is a massive club and there is a lot of pressure. You have to take that on board, but you get the rewards when something like this happens. It was just a great moment for everyone at the club and we are all proud to be involved.”
