DESIGNED WITH autumn layering in mind, this fabulous vest top from Sandra Nesbitt uses mosaic patterning to produce a striking fabric. Sandra has used Rowan’s Creative Linen yarn in shades of orange and cream for the main slip stitch pattern; the garter stitch edgings are knitted in orange, and the lower border incorporates stocking stitch details. Creative Linen shows off stitch textures beautifully, and is available in 13 sophisticated colours.

PATTERN NOTES

The vest is worked in two pieces. Each piece starts off with a garter stitch border with a stocking stitch feature that lines up with the mosaic pattern, then moving into a 24-row repeat mosaic pattern, with armhole and front/back neck shapings. As the body is worked, specific rows and stitches are marked (with locking stitch markers) so they can be located when working the final slipped stitch edging on the neck and armbands.

In mosaic knitting, one colour is worked at a time, with each colour alternating every two rows. Stitches in a contrasting colour are slipped to create colourwork patterns.

When working neck and armhole decreases, work as foll: (RS): SSK at beg of row, K2tog at end of row. (WS): P2tog at beg of row, P2tog tbl at end of row.

SPECIAL STITCHES

When slipping stitches in Mosaic Pattern, slip stitches purlwise, keeping working yarn to WS of work.
