SCARF

Using a provisional cast-on method such as the crochet cast-on, and waste yarn, cast on 144 sts.

Using 3.25mm circular needles and yarn A, knit one row.

Join to work in round, taking care not to twist sts. Place markers at the start of the round and after stitch 72. These markers denote the sides of the scarf. Make sure to use two different stitch markers, so that it is clear which one marks the start of the round.

Using yarn A, knit 2 rounds.

CHARTS

Now work Charts A to N. In each chart, one pattern repeat is given. Work the stitches of the pattern repeat until the end of the round.

Repeat Charts A to N twice more, and then work Charts A to G.

Using yarn I, knit 3 more rounds. Leave the stitches on the needles.

FINISHING

Secure all ends on the inside of the scarf. With the right side of the work facing outwards, fold the top of the scarf together (the stitch markers indicate the side seams) and graft the stitches together, using Kitchener stitch.

Remove the waste yarn at the bottom of the scarf and place the live stitches on 3.25mm circular needles. Graft these stitches together in the same way as you did for the top of the scarf.

Handwash the scarf, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band. Squeeze out excess water, then wrap in a big towel and press to remove as much water as possible. You can also spin-dry the scarf. Lay out to measurements and leave to dry flat.

Kitchener stitch is used to close the ends of the knitted tube
