Spectacular brioche stitch patterns decorate this wonderfully soft alpaca-silk hooded jumper
OKSANA DYMYD
THIS HOODY design by Oksana Dymyd features flower-like brioche motifs across the upper body, lower half of the sleeves, and around the hood opening. The rest of the upper body, sleeves and hood are knitted in two-colour brioche ribbing, while the lower body is worked in single-colour stocking stitch. The garment uses UK Alpaca’s delicious Baby Alpaca & Silk DK yarn, which comes in nine vintage-inspired shades.
PATTERN NOTE
When working two-colour brioche, you will work each row twice – once in each active colour, so you will need to slide stitches back along the circular needle and work again from right to left. When casting off in brioche, you will cast off stitches on the second pass only.
BACK
Using 3.5mm needles and yarn A, cast on 115 (123:131:139) sts.
Row 1 (RS): *K1, P1; rep from * to last st K1. Row 2 (WS): *P1, K1; rep from * to last st P1. These two rows set 1x1 rib. Work in 1x1 rib until piece meas 6 (6:7:7) cm, ending after WS row.
Work in st st until Back meas 24 (24:25:26) cm, ending after WS row.
Change to 3.5mm needles. ** Next row (RS): *P1, K1; rep from * to last st, P1. Next row (WS): *K1, sl1yo; rep from * to last st, K1.
BRIOCHE 1x1 RIB PATT
Row 1 (RS yarn B): Sl1, *BRK, sl1yo; rep from * to last 2 sts, BRK, Sl1, slide all sts back to right end of needle.
Row 1 (RS yarn A): P1, *sl1yo, BRP; rep from
* to last 2 sts, sl1yo, P1. Row 2 (WS yarn B): Sl1, *BRP, sl1yo; rep from * to last
2 sts, BRP, Sl1, slide all sts back to right end of needle. Row 2 (WS yarn A): K1,

1x1 Rib patt. Rep Brioche 1x1 Rib patt another 18 times. Break yarn A.
SHAPE ARMHOLE
Next row (RS yarn B): Cast off 4 sts, patt to end, slide all sts back to right end of needle. 111 (119:127:135) sts.
Next row (RS yarn C): Using yarn C, patt to last 4 sts, Sl4. Next row (WS yarn B): Cast off 4 sts, patt to end, slide all sts back to right end of needle. 107 (115:123:131) sts.
Next row (WS yarn C): Patt to end. Keeping continuity in Brioche 1x1 rib, work until armhole meas 19 (21:22:23) cm, ending after a WS row.
