SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
BUTTONHOLES
Work a buttonhole at beg of Row 1 of the patt for Body on Right Front where indicated, then work a buttonhole every foll 24th row. Buttonhole row: K3, P2, K2, yo, P2tog, K2, P2, K2, slm, work in patt to end. On the foll WS row, purl the yo to create a hole.
PATTERN NOTES
The garment is worked flat, seamless from the bottom up to the underarm, then the front and back are worked separately. The buttonband is knitted at the same time. Sleeve sts are later picked up and the sleeves are worked in the round. Work the pocket linings before beginning the cardigan.
POCKET LINING
(make 2) Using 4.5mm needles, cast on 34 sts.
Work Rows 1-6 of Cable Pattern, following Chart or written instructions 5 times, then work rows 1-5 once more. Pocket lining will be joined on the foll WS. Place live sts live on a holder for later.
HEM
Using 4mm circular needles, 80cm long, cast on 228 (252:276:296:320:336) sts. Do not join.
Next row (RS): K3, (P2, K2) 3 times, pm, (P2, K2) to last 17 sts, P2, pm, (K2, P2) 3 times, K2, Sl 1 wyif. Next row (WS): K1, purl to mrk, slm, *K2, P2; rep from * to 2 sts before mrk, K2, slm, purl to last st, Sl 1 wyif.
Rep last 2 rows until work meas 5cm.
Change to 4.5mm circular needles.
SET-UP ROWS FOR BODY
Row 1 (RS) (dec row): K3, (P2, K2) to mrk, slm, K34, pm, knit to last 53 sts, K2tog, pm, K34, slm, (K2, P2) 3 times, K2, Sl 1 wyif. 227 (251:275:295:319:335) sts.
