The shrug is knitted flat, worked lengthways from one side to the other.
CHART PATTERN
(multiple of 8 sts + 5) Row 1: K4, *SSK, yo, K1, yo, K2tog, K3; rep from * to 1 st before end, K1. Row 2 and all even rows: P to end. Row 3: *K5, yo, s2kpo, yo; rep from * to 5 sts before end, K5. Row 5: Repeat Row 1. Row 7: *SSK, yo, K1, yo, K2tog, K3; rep from * to last 5 sts, SSK, yo, K1, yo, K2tog. Row 9: *K1, yo, s2kpo, yo, K4; rep from * to last 5 sts, K1, yo, s2kpo, yo, K1. Row 11: Repeat Row 7. Row 12: P to end.
SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
I-CORD
Using 4.5mm DPNs, cast on 3 sts. Do not turn, but slide these 3 sts to the other side of the needle. Knit 3 sts, then slide the sts back to the other side.
Repeat these steps until the desired length is reached.
SHRUG
BORDER
Using 4.5mm needles and yarn held double, cast on 95 (103) sts. Do not join.
Row 1 (RS): *K1, P1; rep from * to last st, Sl 1 wyif. Row 2 (WS): K1, *K1, P1; rep from * to last 2 sts, K1, Sl 1 wyif. Repeat rows 1 and 2 once more.
SET-UP ROWS FOR LACE PATTERN
Row 1 (RS): (K1, P1) twice, K1, pm, K to last 5 sts, pm, (K1, P1) twice, Sl 1 wyif. Row 2 (WS): K1, (K1, P1) twice, slm, P to last mrk, slm, (P1, K1) twice, Sl 1 wyif.
PATTERN REPEAT
Work rib patt as set for the first and last 5 sts and at the same time work the 12-row patt repeat between the mrks.
Row 1: (K1, P1) twice, K1, slm, work chart row 1 to mrk, slm, (K1, P1) twice, Sl 1 wyif. Row 2: K1, (K1, P1) twice, slm, work chart row 2 to mrk, slm, (P1, K1) twice, Sl 1 wyif. Rows 3-12: Work as rows 1-2, using chart rows 3-12.
Rep rows 1-12 until piece measures approx. 132 (142) cm from cast-on edge. Consider that the piece will stretch when being blocked. Finish with a complete 12-row rep.
BORDER
On the next row remove all markers as you get to them. Row 1 (RS): *K1, P1; rep from * to last st, Sl 1 wyif. Row 2 (WS): K1, *K1, P1; rep from * to last 2 sts, K1, Sl 1 wyif. Repeat rows 1-2 once more.
Cast off using the following method: K2, place both sts back on left needle and knit together through the back loop, K1, place the 2 sts from the right needle back on the left needle and knit together through the back loop.
