How time flies… and how fast they grow up. Children, I mean. Late last month, Prince George of Cambridge celebrated his first birthday, seemingly only moments after he was introduced to the world on a bright summer’s day in 2013. But just what is it like to grow up as a member of the Royal Family? Well, a new exhibition at Buckingham Palace sets out to offer a glimpse into 250 years of Royal childhood. I still want to know whether a little prince, or princess, has ever run riot with a red crayon in a state room, but the exhibition does paint a colourful, intimate portrait of our young royals, as you can read on page 14. We also have the splendid writer and Prime Suspect creator Lynda La Plante on Dame Helen Mirren, bringing back her most famous character – policewoman Jane Tennison – and why she’d have given up every word she has ever written to have had a child of her own; an evocative account of one lady WAAF’s war in Wales, and our essential guide to keeping your animal companions happy.
