Recently there has been something of a sweetly scented revolution in the fashion and beauty world, led by women who look amazing for their age. Generation Glam they are being called – women for whom age is merely a number. This year, London Fashion Week saw the start of a new 50-plus catwalk show. Our cover star Stefanie Lange is 69 years old but still turns heads. And no, she hasn’t had any ‘work’ done. Earlier this year the actress Isabella Rossellini became the face of Lancôme at 64 years old – a job she had previously been fired from for being too old at 44. Their bold achievements – and wise tips – stand as inspiration for younger women and beacons of hope for those who are a teeny bit worried about their date of birth. Times are changing: we should embrace life and live it. Certainly that’s what Colin Taylor thought when he gave up a successful career as a field biologist to become the Scilly Sergeant, a middle-aged policeman on the Scilly Isles. His Twitter and Facebook updates about abandoned goldfish, his lazy deputy chief constable Mowgli (a plump silver-haired cat) and the mystery of a fried egg at a crime scene have now made him a best-selling author and major tourist attraction. But if becoming a catwalk model or undercover detective seems a bit too much this week, you could just sit back and contemplate our four pages of utterly gorgeous summer dresses. They say change comes from within, but a nice frock certainly helps.
