Stefanie Powers was in her early 20s when she fell in love with Hollywood heart-throb William Holden and was catapulted into a long love affair that transcended their 25-year age gap. But, as she tells us in a rare interview, it left her with a lifetime of regrets. Should she have married him? Could she have saved him from his death brought on by alcoholism? She has a home in London and says that the English are very much part of her soul, that it is easier to be oneself here. Certainly I feel Stefanie has no shortage of fans on this side of the pond or, I hope, among our readers. One of the things many of us may have in common with this star of screen and TV is a love of gardening, and even the smallest spaces can give the greatest pleasure as patio expert Noel Kingsbury explains in our gardening pages. It is also very therapeutic and good for your health as our fitness columnist Diana Moran has often reminded us. This week she has some encouraging tips for those who are tipping the wrong side of the scales and would like to do something about it. Having read Ben Felsenburg’s TV review, I shall be concentrating on counting down to Sunday night and the return of the drama-filled Poldark. I may have to do some calming colouring in while I wait.
