This week we have devoted much of the magazine to the thought that brings a smile to everyone’s faces – holidays. January is the month when, traditionally, we start to plan our year ahead and what better way to fill the diary than with some escapes to the sun. Or perhaps, one of my favourite holidays, a cruise. From the moment you step on board the fun begins. I am currently pondering a return trip to the breathtaking Norwegian Fjords or something a little warmer around the Med. Or I may plump for a nice roomy villa with a pool in Italy. Or maybe follow the adorable Martin Clunes to Australia? Too many choices. One thing is certain, the tourist numbers for Los Angeles look set to rocket this year following the release last week of the gloriously old fashioned but utterly stylish new film, La La Land. Emma Stone tells us this week that making the movie was intoxicating and certainly she deserves an Oscar just for her song and dance routines – something she had never done before. I am not sure how much singing Sister Agatha does (she is often silent), but certainly she underwent a dramatic transformation herself when she went from being a high-society debutante to a nun overnight. For those of us who also fancy a change, but nothing quite as challenging, I suggest a leisurely look at our Hot Pink fashion pages – just the thing for a sunny getaway.
