The Lady Magazine
20 September 2019
Dear Readers, As I write this we are preparing to move offices from here in Bedford Street, our perch for over a century, to a modern business park in Borehamwood. Time moves on, even here at The Lady. It means exciting changes and a hard decision on my part to give up being editor of this wonderful magazine after our October 4th edition. I will miss you all, dear readers, but as the glorious Patricia Hodge tells us in our exclusive interview, all change is a chance to start a new chapter. Miss Darcy Bustle has been given time off from writing her column to pack up her chews and toys – but she will be back on October 4th to bid a fond farewell. In the meantime, the rest of us are practising Harri Rose’s self belief advice. ‘You are Enough’ she tells us, and of course she right. Learning to believe in ourselves is a precious life skill. Equally precious are Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dresses, beautiful ensembles designed for her most famous roles, our last chance to see them before they disappear from public view into private collections. For those who have suffered a broken heart, writer Isabel Vincent’s moving memoir about how the elegant suppers cooked by her graceful, nonagenarian neighbour helped heal her soul reminds us of the importance of friendship. It takes so little to stop for a chat. Even better, you too might want to invite someone round for supper and try out some of our irresistible Provencal recipes. Just the thing to bring a warm glow to the autumn evenings… Until October 4th, best wishes Sam Taylor, Editor
