DIPO AKINYEMI returned to the goal trail with a vengeance as his man-of-the-match performance saw the Minstermen pick up three crucial points in their fight against relegation.

Akinyemi’s run and cross led to the opening goal in the first half and his impressive lob in the second half sealed the win.

His performance and the team’s had boss Adam Hinshelwood beaming at fulltime, and he said: “Since the win last week the belief has been there, we trained well and that was shown today.

“The fight and endeavour was there throughout the game.

“When you come to a place like Bromley you have to show bravery to play and we did that.

“Bromley may have had a lot of the ball in the second half but we limited them to little or nothing and Dipo finished the game with a fantastic second goal.”

It was relegation-threatened York who began the game better and perhaps should have taken the lead inside the opening ten minutes.

Akinyemi did well to beat the offside trap but his effort failed to nestle the right side of the post.

With Bromley not at the races it took them until the 20th minute to fashion a chance of note, Louis Dennis seeing his hooked volley tipped behind by York custodian Rory Watson.

It was the Minstermen who took a deserved lead however just after the half hour. Akinyemi’s strong run and cross saw Marvin Armstrong’s initial shot saved before a succession of rebounds saw the ball just screw over the line.

The goal appeared to wake the Ravens up and they played their best passage of the half just before the interval.

First Callum Reynolds saw his hooked effort saved at point-blank range by Watson before Watson was again at his best denying Kamarl Grant’s header at the back post.
