ALEX WHITMORE’S headed double sealed history for Solihull Moors as they beat play-off rivals Bromley to book their first ever trip to Wembley.

Solihull’s dominant firsthalf performance was rewarded with a first-half lead courtesy of Whitmore’s header. Bromley drew level in the second half through Ben Krauhaus’ volley.

But the game was ultimately decided 16 minutes from time when Whitmore headed them into the final.

Moors boss Andy Whing felt it was a deserved victory, saying: “I’m absolutely delighted. The conditions were terrible and it affected the quality of the game but we had the most quality.

“Bromley are very good at putting the ball in the box and we had to stand up and defend for our lives in the second half but my players were fantastic to a man.”

A scrappy opening half was more notable for the windy conditions and it took until midway through the half for a notable chance to be created. Jamey Osborne’s excellent through ball found an onrushing Jon Benton but Grant Smith produced a great save to deny the winger.

That chance signalled a dominant passage of play that saw Solihull deservedly take the lead although the opening goal was somewhat controversial.

Whitmore saw his initial header cleared off the line by Josh Passley. However when the ball presented itself to the Moors man a second time, the assistant referee adjudged Smith didn’t prevent it from going over the line.

Nana Boateng missed a good chance to double the lead when he could only shoot wide from Benton’s cutback before Osborne crashed a fantastic 25-yard effort against the post.
