Turn And Turn About

Each beautiful piece – including bowls, coffee grinders, peppermills and more – from Fodderty Woodturning can be traced back to the exact tree that provided the wood.

Those trees are usually local to the Dingwall workshop of woodturner extraordinaire Ansgar Vinke, and they are never felled deliberately.

I now own one of his gorgeous wooden-handled coffee scoops, and using it makes bleary mornings feel brighter.

It’s good, in this mass-produced world, to be so in touch with who – and what – made the objects around us.

Lather Up

Next month marks the beginning of midge season here in the Highlands, so I’m taking no chances: it’s time for me to stock up on bog myrtle soap from the Highland Soap Company. I have no idea if the scent of this shrub really does deter the pesky midges, but since this stuff smells so nice, there’s no harm in adding it to my bite-busting repertoire!

She Sells Seashells

When I was little, I thought Guylian seashells were the height of sophistication, matched only by the glacial glamour of a Viennetta. And while I am undeniably susceptible to the charms of a posh chocolate nowadays, I still believe in my heart of hearts that a box of Guylian simply can’t be beaten.
