Mr London the Therapy Cat

If you ever happen to be at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, London, as a patient or visiting a loved one, don’t be surprised if you see a gorgeous black cat wandering the wards.

Along with owner Isabel Serafim, a Persian ragdoll named Mr London is making people smile while volunteering with the charity Pets As Therapy (PAT).

“Every cat guardian will say that their pet is the most wonderful, but I’m extra proud that Mr London is happy to volunteer with Pets As Therapy,” Isabel says.

“He brings so much joy and ‘pawsitivity’ to everyone he meets.

“Yes, he has ‘cattitude’ and knows he’s a handsome fellow, but he also loves meeting people and enjoys all the fuss he receives from patients, even if he does sometimes casually have a nap on the job.”

Isabel adds that Mr London’s presence is like a breath of fresh air.

“The mood on the ward changes.” She smiles.

“The health professionals embrace his company, too, especially if they are able to sit with him for a little break during a busy shift.”

Staff are also very proud of being able to offer the services of Mr London at the hospital.

“As a PAT cat, he’s an amazing distraction.

“Patients can have a bit of an escape from where they are – even a few minutes helps. We usually exchange stories of pets and how much they mean to us.”

Volunteering with Pets As Therapy is something Isabel really enjoys.

“It keeps me grounded and helps me put things in perspective in life.

“I always thought being a PAT visiting volunteer would be a rewarding way to spend time with your pet.

“It’s also a great way to give something back to the community. There’s nothing better than volunteering with my wonderful partner, Mr London.”
