Students are being taught some crucial rugby lessons

LOUGHBOROUGH are relishing the opportunity to play in National 2 West because of the experience it offers.

Martin Webdale, who takes care of Loughborough’s BUCS side while Brad Jones and James Peters look after the National League team, said: “In National League rugby we will generally struggle a little bit in terms of the collisions or in terms of set-pieces when playing against older, more experienced players.

“Each team in National League 2 West has really good, strong experienced players or some who may be moving down the levels as they get older.

“It’s really good for our guys to come out of school or academy-level rugby and go to somewhere like Redruth or Luctonians and experience that on a Saturday.”

The students have had a mixed ride this season, and went into the weekend in ninth place.

But they have reason to find hope in their home form, which saw them thrash Dudley Kingswinford, Chester and Camborne in recent weeks, averaging 68.7 points across the three games.

Loughborough take on top-of-the-table Luctonians next at home and will be aiming to extend their good run of form. As with many university teams, the entire club will turn up to watch the teams plays.

Webdale added: “We encourage our whole club to support the guys that are on the field whether that’s on Saturday or Wednesday. I think that’s really important. We’re fortunate that at home, the guys excel, but the chall
